NATUROPATHIC SUPPORT FOR VAGINAL HEALTH
Recurrent thrush, BV or vaginal symptoms can be incredibly frustrating - especially when you've treated them multiple times, only for them to come back.
When symptoms keep recurring, it's important to first understand what you're actually dealing with. From the vaginal microbiome and previous antibiotic use to hormones, medications and other health factors, there may be more to consider than simply repeating the same treatment.
My approach combines appropriate investigation with personalised, evidence-informed naturopathic care to support your vaginal and overall health.

YOU MIGHT BE HERE BECAUSE…
YOU KEEP GETTING THRUSH
You've treated it, it improves... and then seems to come straight back.BV KEEPS RETURNING
You've had repeated episodes of bacterial vaginosis or symptoms that recur after treatment.YOU'RE NOT EVEN SURE WHAT YOU'RE DEALING WITH
Thrush, BV and other vaginal conditions can cause overlapping symptoms, and you've never really had a clear answer.YOUR SYMPTOMS FOLLOW A PATTERN
You notice symptoms around your period, after sex, after antibiotics or at particular times in your cycle.YOU'VE TRIED ALL THE PROBIOTICS
But you're not actually sure whether they're the right strains - or whether you need them at all.YOU WANT TO LOOK A LITTLE DEEPER
You're tired of repeatedly treating symptoms without understanding why they may be recurring.
What we may explore
TESTING & DIAGNOSIS
What testing you've already had, whether your symptoms have been properly identified and whether further medical or microbiome testing may be useful.
THE VAGINAL MICROBIOME
The balance of protective Lactobacillus species and other microorganisms within the vaginal environment, where relevant to your presentation.
ANTIBIOTIC & MEDICATION HISTORY
Previous antibiotic or antifungal use, medications, contraception and other factors that may influence symptoms.
HORMONES & YOUR CYCLE
Whether symptoms follow a menstrual pattern and how hormonal changes may be influencing the vaginal environment.
GUT HEALTH
Digestive health is considered where it's genuinely relevant to the bigger clinical picture - rather than assuming every vaginal symptom “starts in the gut.”
PRODUCTS & LIFESTYLE
Intimate washes, lubricants, menstrual products, clothing, sexual health factors and other potential irritants or triggers.

RECURRENT DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN
"JUST TREAT IT AGAIN".
Vaginal symptoms aren't always as straightforward as they seem.
Itching, irritation, changes in discharge and odour can have multiple causes, which is why repeatedly assuming symptoms are thrush or BV without appropriate assessment isn't always helpful.
When symptoms are recurrent, I want to understand the pattern: when they began, what testing you've had, previous treatments, antibiotic use, your menstrual cycle, contraception, sexual and reproductive health history, medications and anything else that may be relevant.
Sometimes further investigation is worthwhile. Other times, the most useful step is making sure the diagnosis itself is clear before adding more supplements, probiotics or restrictive diets.
THE VAGINAL MICROBIOME ISN'T ABOUT "GOOD VS BAD"
A healthy vaginal microbiome is commonly dominated by protective Lactobacillus species, which help maintain the acidic vaginal environment.
But vaginal microbiomes vary between individuals, and simply finding a particular microorganism doesn't automatically mean it needs to be eradicated.
Results need to be interpreted alongside your symptoms, history and appropriate medical testing - which is why I don't recommend blindly treating a microbiome test result in isolation.
PERSONALISED, NOT A GENERIC "THRUSH PROTOCOL"
Your plan will depend on what you're actually experiencing and what we uncover during your consultation.
Support may include nutrition and lifestyle strategies, targeted probiotics where appropriate, practitioner-only supplements or herbal medicine, addressing relevant nutrient or health factors, and recommendations for further testing or medical assessment when needed.
You won't automatically be told to cut out sugar, avoid every carbohydrate or take five different probiotics simply because you've experienced thrush or BV.
The aim is to create a plan that makes sense for your presentation and is realistic enough to actually follow.
FAQ
Why do I keep getting thrush?
Recurrent symptoms can have a number of contributing factors, and symptoms that feel like thrush aren't always caused by Candida. If episodes keep returning, confirming the diagnosis and reviewing your history, treatments and potential contributing factors is an important starting point.
Why does BV keep coming back?
BV can recur after treatment for some people. Rather than simply repeating the same approach indefinitely, recurrent symptoms may warrant further assessment of your diagnosis, history and vaginal microbiome where appropriate.
How do I know whether I have thrush or BV?
Symptoms can overlap, so symptoms alone aren't always enough to distinguish between them. Testing through your GP or sexual health provider may be recommended, particularly if symptoms are new, unusual or recurrent.
Do I need a vaginal microbiome test?
Not everyone does. Whether more comprehensive testing is useful depends on your symptoms, previous testing and treatment history. If testing is unlikely to change your treatment plan, it may not be necessary.
Can I take vaginal probiotics?
Probiotics aren't one-size-fits-all. Different products contain different strains, and whether they're appropriate depends on your individual presentation. I prefer to recommend them when there's a clear reason for doing so rather than automatically using a generic women's probiotic.
Can I see a naturopath while using antibiotics or antifungals?
Yes. Naturopathic care can be used alongside medical treatment where appropriate. I take current medications and prescribed treatments into account when developing your plan, and changes to prescribed treatment should be discussed with your prescribing healthcare professional.
